History

YOMA Textiles launched in January 1987 in New York, NY by Kathryn Hinkle and Lee Olson, combining their professional experiences in the residential home furnishings market and the evolving contract industry. They opened their office in downtown Manhattan, in the Soho District, solidifying their passion for textiles and with the intention of creating a holistic collection that would transition effortlessly from residential to contract/hospitality interiors.

As longtime New York residents, their network has expanded across the United States, partnering with many established designers and showrooms both large and boutique scale, as well as fostering long lasting relationships with textile mills from around the globe from which they source their quality fabrics.

In 2016, they moved their HQ offices to the Financial District in downtown Manhattan, at the historical landmarked Bennett Building.

YOMA Textiles is a proud Women Owned and Small Business.

We were young and full of ideas back in the 80’s when we started.  Gathering our talents from our collective years at Brunschwig et Fils and along with our enthusiasm; we jumped right into the fray. The stock market crashed the first year, and every few years there was another crisis in our country and/or the world that would strongly impact our small business.

A strong, trusting partnership, loving families, supportive vendors, dedicated staff and of course wonderful clients have enabled us to keep building our textile collection, expand our client base and allow us to do what we love on our own terms.

We are grateful and look forward to continuing the story.”

Kathryn Hinkle

Co-Founder/Owner, Vice President and CEO

Kathryn Hinkle brings an unrivaled dedication to her work directing operations for Yoma Textiles. As Vice President and CEO she is able to pull from her multi-faceted career in the textile industry, creating a marketing and sales development program that keeps this woman owned boutique business in the forefront of the design industry for over 30 years.

Kathryn’s love of everything French and Italian makes naming the fabrics an enjoyable diversion!

Lee Olson

Co-Founder/Owner, President and Head Designer

Lee Olson’s tremendous design talent is matched only by her love for her work.  She is gifted with the unique ability to recognize beauty in the simplistic and it is with this discerning eye that enables her to create the unique patterns and the exciting color palette that is the essence of the YOMA Textiles collection.  Working closely with the mills, Lee is able to bring to life the custom projects envisioned by a select group of clients.  These, often challenging and yet always rewarding projects present yet another creative niche for her textile design passion.

Lee’s lifetime draw to textile design was nurtured and deepened during her studies at prestigious RIT, and in her successful career with Brunschwig et Fils. Her application for the Japanese design philosophy and her extensive travels in Asia and Europe have enabled her to create a harmonious, integrated collection that continues to evolve and flourish.

YOMA Textiles began creating textiles to contract designers and projects that quickly expanded into hospitality, institutional, and residential industries.  Along with their growth, their designs and collections continued to expand and evolve into an everchanging yet timeless group.  We invite you to take a glimpse into our past collections.
